Learn the basics of Zagi Shomen-uchi Dai-ikkyo with Hiroaki Kobayashi Shihan. He explains the footwork and the rotational shikko in detail. Master the correct body movements and effective practice methods through this instructional video.
1.Footwork, Rotational Shikko
In this session, we explain the Zagi Shomen-uchi Dai-ikkyo technique. When the opponent strikes from the front, lift your hips properly. Then move forward and control with Dai-ikkyo. The movement should feel like lifting straight up.
Although it looks like you are making a big step due to wearing hakama, in reality, your foot does not move that far. After that, kneel down and avoid pushing with just your hands. Ensure that the movement comes from your core, and finally control the wrist with the Ikkyo movement.
Next, we explain the ura movement. After evading the strike, use rotational shikko to control the opponent. It is important to coordinate the movements of the upper and lower body rather than just using the legs. Practice the rotational shikko repeatedly to ensure you can perform it accurately even when facing an opponent.
2.Summary
Zagi Shomen-uchi Dai-ikkyo has simple movements, but it is essential to practice the preliminary and rotational movements of shikko thoroughly. Practice consistently to ensure the movements can be performed accurately even with an opponent, thereby enhancing the precision of your techniques.
