Hiroaki Kobayashi Shihan of Aikido Kobayashi Dojo explains the fundamental technique of Shikko in seated practice. Learn the correct body movements and effective practice methods through this instructional video.

    1.Basics of Shikko

In this session, we explain how to perform Shikko. Shikko involves not just lower body movement but also the coordination of upper and lower body movements, with a strong focus on the core. When stepping forward, make sure to open your core and move your shoulders forward. It's important to move not just your legs but your upper body as well.

If you find it difficult, try extending your hands and imagine being pulled by them. Keep your gaze forward.

Next, we explain the method of backward Shikko. Raise your hips high, move your shoulders forward, then move your legs and step back straight. Repeat this motion to move backward. After moving the back leg, ensure that the front leg is also placed firmly. Maintain proper weight transfer as you move backward.

Next is the rotational Shikko. When stepping, kneel down and imagine closing your knees together as you turn. When placing the opposite leg, close your knees at the moment they touch the ground. Moving your chest in coordination, open and close your chest along with your knees for smoother movement.

    2.Summary of Practice

Shikko is not just for strengthening the lower body but also for practicing the coordination of the upper and lower body. This fundamental movement in seated techniques is crucial for advancing to other techniques. Practice Shikko diligently to enhance your overall skills.
