The All-Japan Kendo Championships held every fall at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo is the tournaments that determine Japan's best kendo player. This special feature covers the two winners of the "All-Japan Kendo Championship".
I picked up video clips from "GEN" archive to watch school and police days of kendo play, so please watch them while paying attention to the technical and mental strengths of the strong players.

Kendo Players in <Vol.1>

The third great achievement ever! Hidehisa Nishimura works at the Kumamoto prefectural police department who won consecutive All-Japan Kendo Championships.

The youngest player ever to win the All-Japan Kendo Championships, Yuya Takenouchi of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Highlight:
The present style and skill of sword has been completed since school days. He seems to have been good at “Kote” which is a strike zone of gloves and “Hikimen” a technical hitting the face when you pull back after a sword fight. I want you to pay attention to Nishimura's way of fighting because he has a great technique to fight against Ishikawa who has taller height.

Currently Nishimura is a police officer. He has improved his skills through hard training and high-level kendo plays. The “Hikimen”, which is a game-winning hit is one that shows a high level of judgment.

Highlight:
The video clip from University year is a match against Umegaya, a junior colleague.    We want to focus on Takenouchi’s sharp kendo play.

The National Police Kendo Championship is a competition with Kosuke Hatakenaka, who has always been at the top of his generation. After joining the Metropolitan Police Department, he is 178 cm tall and has grown even thicker and stronger, but his speed is brisk. His powerful technique and skill is remarkable.

3.summary

In the world of kendo, where skills and physical strength as well as rationality and tactics are the key to victory, it has been said that it is very difficult for students and players in their 20s to reach the top. However, since Takenouchi won the 2014 championship, and Nishimura won the 2015 championship the following year, five out of six championships have emerged in their 20s.

The “Kendo selected special training sessions” and “Advanced training sessions” organized by the All-Japan Kendo Federation may have increased the opportunity for young people to experience high-quality kendo. I look forward to seeing the success of both students and young people at the All Japan Kendo Championships.
