The First All Japan Karatedo Weight Class Tournament was held in June.
As reported in last month's issue, the 10 first champions were decided.
This was the first All-Japan class tournament to introduce the round-robin system (league matches),which has now become the mainstream in international competitions. This is a tournament with an eye on the world.
The tournament brought together a distinguished lineup of Japanese fighters, a rarity in recent years,and produced numerous dream matches on each court. It was definitely a tournament that shocked everyone who saw it and advanced karate in Japan.
