My Life changed!
Wheelchair karate
Sakiko Kato (School Corporation Osaka Gakugei Staff,
NPO Japan Karate Shotokan Federation Osaka Minami Branch) has been active in wheelchair karate competitions in recent years.
She started karate in elementary school and was active in kata and kumite through junior high and high school,
but when she was a university student, she developed muscular dystrophy, an incurable disease.
The disease progressed slowly, but when she was faced with the need to maintain her physical strength, she learned about wheelchair karate.
She has been away from karate for about 15 years, but she has been practicing wheelchair karate under her sensei.
She said, "Now I am more than happy to be able to continue karate".
We asked her about her thoughts on karate.
