    Championships Finalists' Kumite Techniques
to Make the Most of Their Personalities

At the 2020 Japan Cup Karatedo Championships, two 20-year-olds were in the female kumite final.
They were 171cm Yuzuki Sawae and 156cm Airi Shima.
Both of them had beaten the best of the best to reach Japan's highest final.
In the finals of the non-discriminatory Japan Cup Karatedo Championships, Yuzuki, using his height, and Airi, using her agility, clashed.
One of the reasons why these two opponents made such a leap forward was because of their unique Kumite techniques that took advantage of their physiques.
The two were born in the same year and have been competing for the top spot in the nation since they were girls.
In addition, they have been competing against each other by learning contrasting tactics that take advantage of their individuality, "only taller players" and "only smaller players".
We took a closer look at their respective kumite theories and techniques.
