Kyushu Gakuin High School is one of the strongest schools in the world of high school kendo.
The school is led by coach Yoneda Toshiro.
Yoneda has been coaching the school's kendo team for nearly 30 years.
Since 2013, the team has been overwhelmingly strong, winning seven consecutive championships in the national tournament and seven of the last eight inter high school tournaments.
It is not uncommon to see graduates of the Kyushu Gakuin High School Kendo Club who were not able to play in high school become successful university students and adults.
I wondered if there was a reason behind this, not only in Yoneda's kendo skills, but also in his daily guidance.
I decided to interview him to find out.
In the first part of this report, we talk about Yoneda's first encounter with kendo, and the story behind his appointment to Kyushu Gakuin High School.
