    Proper Shinai Rotation and Footwork

    main-image

In Kendo, the way you rotate your Shinai and the timing of your footwork can determine the outcome of a match. Hyoga Kajitani explains the key points for proper Shinai rotation and effective footwork when facing an opponent.

    1.Correct Rotation and Efficient Footwork

To execute effective techniques in Kendo, proper Shinai rotation and footwork are essential. Hyoga Kajitani advises that rotating your Shinai to the left when your opponent attacks can leave your Kote exposed, making a right rotation more favorable. Additionally, when striking, you should kick with your left foot, step forward with your right foot, and quickly pull your left foot forward to ensure a smooth motion. Strengthening your left leg can improve the speed of this movement, making your techniques more effective, but be cautious to avoid injury. Start with simple exercises like jumping on your left foot to gradually build strength.
