A Document of Modern Soshu-Den Japanese Sword Forging: Praying to the Flame Part 2
This video documents the Soshu-den's "hon san mai", forging technique by Miyairi Kozaemon Yukihei (real name Kei), a leading modern Japanese swordsmith, including interviews with him. Miyairi Kozaemon Yukihei grew up under the tutelage of his father, the late living national treasure Miyairi Yukihira, and became a sword smith at an early age. Today, he is the leader of the Miyairi clan and is also active in promoting modern swords. He is aiming to establish the Kozaemon Yukihira style Soshu-den, which is a further evolution of his father's forging method.
The second part includes the process of combining the core steel and the outer layer, through the hon san mai forging technique, to the process of magaritori.
