Modern Day Gassan Tradition Part 3

Gassan-den is a group of Dewa swordsmiths who flourished in the Kamakura period (1185-1333) and are known for their beautiful layers called Ayasugi-hada and very detailed workcarvings. This video documents Gassan Sadatoshi's 800-year tradition of forging techniques in high definition with interviews with the swordsmith himself.

Part 3 includes an introduction to Sadatoshi Tsukiyama's work, from placing the clay and Yakiire to the carving process, as well as an interview with him.
